One of our most recent projects involved a rapid response to an emergency breakdown at Cranborne House, one of their residences.
We recently completed a massive project at this same accommodation, replacing 500 water heaters and upgrading the electrical systems. This overhaul was aimed at boosting comfort, safety, and reliability for the students.

What the issue was
Cranborne House is a large student accommodation in Bournemouth housing around 500 students. The shower heaters inside the building had worked reliably for over twenty years, but had lately begun to work inconsistently, causing cold bursts and slow heating times. After receiving complaints from students, Campus Living Villages recognised the need for an upgrade and turned to us to replace the ageing heaters with new, reliable ones.
What we did
Shortly after Campus Living Villages reached out, we visited Cranbourne House to upgrade their shower heaters. Our expert engineer Lewis led the project, drawing on six years of plumbing expertise to inform his work.
The older heaters were less efficient than the new models, so we needed to replace the underpowered 6mm cables. We swapped them out for robust 10mm cables and increased the breaker size to make sure the power supply was adequate. Once the cables and heaters were installed, we patched the walls in preparation for painting.
We managed to complete around one flat per day, installing 6-7 water heaters each. One team of three worked on the job at a time, rotating tasks to maximise their skills.
During the project, the client decided on a more energy-efficient water heater model than they originally agreed on. Despite the logistical challenges, our expert team adapted quickly, ensuring we met our client’s demands by installing the latest models with the correct electrical systems in place to handle the new power requirements.
On top of delivering quality workmanship, we prioritised cleanliness and minimising disruption, as some students were still living on campus. We made sure any mess from the installations was cleaned up and carefully scheduled our work to avoid inconveniencing residents, making the project as unobtrusive as possible.
Project results
The project spanned six months, and our team successfully completed it without any setbacks. The new water heaters are more energy-efficient and provide steadier hot water and pressure, making showering more comfortable for residents, while saving money on energy bills and reducing the carbon footprint for Campus Living Villages.
